The other day, I was out jogging on a track and considering what to do with this site. I’ve tried multiple times to be disciplined about posting something on a regular basis and have failed every single time.
In the world of track and field, you get disqualified for false starts. Sometimes that mentality eeks over into our everyday life. We try something and don’t do it well or the way we wanted to, and so disqualify ourselves.
I’ve tried to become a runner for over a decade now. I’m still trying. This year I signed up for a half marathon to make myself get out and do something. In April I complete a half marathon and lived to tell the tale!! I’ve already contacted a friend about doing another one in September sometime.
Three years ago, I made the New Year’s Resolution to track my workouts. It’s taken me all three of those years to find a system that works for me. I think I’ve finally found something, and I tracked workouts from January through April, failed in May, but started again in June.
I’m realizing that failing to reach a goal doesn’t mean I’m disqualified from that particular thing. I don’t have to give up on the idea of having a regular blog posted. I just have to keep re-starting.
Whatever it is that you keep trying to accomplish – let me encourage you to keep going! Don’t disqualify yourself. Don’t give up. One day, you’ll get the start right and you’ll finish your race. 🙂
In this life, God promises us that His mercy and His compassion are renewed every single day. So, if you failed yesterday – or today already – don’t give up on yourself. Simply ask God for His mercy and compassion, accept it, then keep moving forward.
