Moonlight Reflections

Have you ever just looked up at the sky and been in awe? You see the constellations and the moon in one of its many stages and it just takes your breath away?

The other night I was standing outside with a friend and we were talking about the moon. We’d recently had the Harvest Moon full moon and our conversation turned to how the moon simply reflects the sun and how we as followers of Jesus are supposed to reflect Him.

John quotes Jesus in John 8:12 saying, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me you won’t have to walk in darkness because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world.” and it is a verse that is often quoted by people in the church. But we can only reflect Jesus if we follow Him and allow His Spirit to dwell within us. He’s the Light – we’re simply the reflection.

And that sounds great and easy – except sometimes my life seems more like a new moon. You know, the one you can’t see. My life seems dark and cold and like I can’t even help myself, so how can I help others?

Other times I wake up beaming His light for all the world to see. I’m ready to speak Truth and lend a helping hand, use encouraging words, see someone else’s point of view. I have energy and warmth and want to give it to others.

Life has rhythms and cycles. It is normal to have days when you are completely in tune with the Spirit and other days that the flesh just takes over or the darkness in this world seems overwhelming.

In our universe it is the sun that never moves. The earth and moon rotate, change positions, and travel. It’s the same with God. He’s the One who never changes. We’re the one moving around – sometimes near, sometimes far. Sometimes we’re in the way and can’t reflect His light. Sometimes we’re in the right spot and the whole world can see His reflection.

If you’re in a dark spot – have hope. You can always move back into His light. If you’re out being a bright reflection – continue there, basking in His light.

It’s good to be reminded that God never changes. And that He can be found where we left Him.
    I enjoyed this! Thank you!
