Ever noticed that sometimes life just gets in the way? Three years ago, I started a page, only to have life completely interrupted and come to a screeching halt … at least in some parts. Other areas never even slowed down to notice the change.
These past few months have been a struggle for most people that I know. It seems about the time things seem to be starting up, something happens to make it all stop. No one seems to be able to plan past the next day, and even that can be iffy at times.
The other day I was out hiking and decided to visit a new area, only I couldn’t find a map. So, I took the first trail I came to and started walking, and it was beautiful! Most people fly over my Great Plains, but I love the wide open spaces, and the hidden gems I find here.
Shortly after I began the walk, I came to a crossroads and had to choose which path I really wanted to take, but with no map, I had no idea if I would be walking for 100 miles or a half a mile. And I didn’t know exactly where I’d end up, except that I’d still be in the same park.
That’s when I realized life is sort of like that. We all come to various places where we can choose one path or another, but we aren’t really sure where it will all lead. Even those super detail oriented people who make 5 year plans still don’t know the twists and turns life will bring. We just have to go with it and enjoy the walk as we’re going.
That day I enjoyed all the trails I took. Some were uphill, some had lots of shade, while others were nice and sunny, but in the end, it was a day well spent. Life is going to be like that. Choices. Pauses. Going forward. Uphills. The unknown. But even in all that, we can have one constant.
God is my constant. He promises to never change and to always be with me. Psalms 16:11 says:
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.

I hope that today, whether you’re at the stopping or starting point of something, that you’ll be able to have a moment to pause and enjoy life. Maybe you won’t be able to see for miles around you, but I hope you can smile at what is before you.
