I love being outside, walking in nature, watching the wind as it moves the trees and they wave to one another. Watching waves crash over one another and reach as far as they can up the sandy beach then retreat back. Watching clouds floating overhead or the stars come out one by one – like they’re showing up for a party they’ve been invited to. Clustering together tightly, forming specific groups, others just hanging out shining.
One one such afternoon I started thinking about the trees and plants. What causes them to grow? I have a small herb garden that I’m trying to keep alive. And though I give it water and make sure the plants are in the sun – I actually don’t make it grow.
So, why do I stress about …. well … anything?
God has offered us a stewardship. He has given us responsibilities – for which we’re held accountable. We’re accountable for the small actions we take – not the end result of the entire world.
So, today as I go about my day, I’m going to remember that it is all about the small things. Will I come to work with a good attitude? Will I smile at people I see? Will I encourage people around me? Will I water my herb garden, pick up my trash, do what I can to be a good steward of all I have been given? And will I trust the God who created everything to continue to make things grow, change hearts, and do what He does best?
